🎊Congratulations, #Aliens👽! You have made it to the last day of the course. It's graduation day. I am so happy for you from the bottom of my heart. For the past 4 days, we have been working on how to build a community. Today I want you to focus on yourself.🧠👀👶
Building is a journey. From nothing to something. From zero to hero. You must walk the "Dao". It's not a 50-meter race. You need to understand how to keep on going.🧘🧘♀️
Part 1: Self-care & self-reflection👩🦳👱♂️👨🦱🧑🦱
Take care of yourself. Many people started building communities with full horsepower. It is good to be passionate, but it can also be a curse. If you want to learn the ins and outs of passion, I recommend The Passion Paradox by Brad Stulberg and Steve Magness. I am still battling my passion every day. I don't always do a good job on this. I had 11 hours and 23 mins per day average screentime last week. When the notification hit, I was shocked. My eyes were all dry and tired. I didn't work out for a week. I wasn't eating because I was catching the momentum in my workflow. So started from yesterday, I squeezed in my old workout routine into my daily plan. My mind finally got a chance to a fresh start.
My example is bad. It's terrible. This is not the way to walk the "Dao". Everyone is different. I cannot tell you the best way to rest yourself. What works for me is probably not gonna work for you. Nevertheless, make space for your mind every day.🧚
I personally like to practice mindfulness, I found it really fun to do it. It's relaxing. Headspace is a really good one. Mindfulness allows me to clear up my brain so I can better self reflect.🙆♀️
It's crucial to self reflect often. I do that on a daily bases. I have trust issue with my memory. When I first started my entrepreneurial journey, I like to work hard but not work smart. My team always came up with good ideas. Every time we would be like: Hey this is a good idea, it's going to make us a lot of money, let's hit it. We ended up running out of energy and doing everything half-way. We didn't go anywhere for months. Our cash account was just burning, on fire. I realized that we were doing it wrong when the investor told us he is not funding us anymore. I went to my partners, they agreed. But they weren't able to carry out the execution. In retrospect, I realized that the problem was a lack of self-care and self-reflection. We were so occupied trying, we forgot our priority. I was tired of my partners panicking without self-reflecting, so I ended up quite Yura.🤦🏼♀️
The point is to keep yourself on the course. Always make your priorities crystal clear. We ended up doing so much that we don't even know why are we doing it. A good community builder knows why and what needs to do done. Don't scale up when you don't have a good group of early adopters. Don't chase investment when you haven't even started your customer interviews. Always self-reflect, because they are so easy to be forgotten.🔥
Community building needs self-caring and self-reflecting. Make time and space for it.💫💫💫
Part 2: Vulnerability & genuinity🌞
🐝Being a community builder, especially in the early stage, you have a lot of influences on your member's behavior. Members will be more willing to share if they feel like they are in a safe space. The only way to make them feel safe is to demonstrate it.
Be vulnerable and genuine with your members. You don't need to be the hero. I am teaching this course but today I just give you me as a bad self-carer. But I found that whenever I shared someone my vulnerability, I made them feel comfortable talking to be about their vulnerability. In other words, less shy.🦋
This is literally how you make your community engagement. I learned this tip from my friend. He would post Youtube videos of him crying though emotional issues sometimes. What he got the most from posting these videos was a ton of supporting emails from viewers who shares the same problem.🌺
The same principle works for community building. Create a safe space where people feel comfortable sharing.✨
#Aliens👽, congratulation on completing the course!
Practice your habits daily. You already learned the knowledge, now it's time to master it. It's just like working out. Stick to your plan.
Do not forget to take advantage of the Pubb Builder Community. Ask if there is a question. Provide value and help if there is any question you can help.
I encourage you to schedule 1-1 sections with me. My favorite thing to do is to chat with you! I am here for you 24/7.
